session: 10

Session 10: Deliver



In ETEC 541 I learned many new,good and effective points that can help my in future as designer online course and also as an instructor.

I learned the following:

1- To create an effective online course we need to have good experiences designed.

2- Because there are many students in the course that mean we have different learning styles. In this case the designer needs to use multiple instructional methods.

3- The good instructor always makes sure the students reach their need by check their assignment weekly and give them an effective feedback.

4- The instructor need to give the students clear course for example: Dr. Newberry gives us clear points about what we need to do in each session and include the course word document and pod cast.

5- The instructor needs to give the students fast feedback about their works. For example: Dr. Newberry gives us our grades in each week with an effective comment on our assignment. Also he always answers our email in same day or day after we email him.

I use what I learned in this class to create my online course:

  • I focused to use only free online course material I used Skype, free website to the course, ((scribd)) , Microsoft PowerPoint, also there are a word documents explaining each step of the method to solve every problem that may the student face it when they try to open the program or the PowerPoint.
  • I tested my media to make sure every things work and clear, by asking several friends that close to me, to view the PowerPoint, syllabus and the documents before upload them in scribd website and also after I upload them too.
  • After I upload all my media I will have some sample students try all the media in their place that they be upload the media for example, at home, work, university etc.
  • I will ask these students about the problem that may be face it when they view the materials, for example: download speeds, the clear of the color, clear of the words size, etc.
  • I will have some sample students try to view the media in different kind of computer, such as, Vista, Windows XP, and Macintosh. And I will take note if they face any problem I will fix it to make sure the desired students learning outcomes are being met.
  • I tried to give a clear direction on what students need to do before each session and use step by step to show student what they need to do in each assignment.

  • The delivery methods that I used in my online course for Communication
  1. Email and blog (Asynchronous)
  2. Videoconferencing by using Skype program (Synchronous)

Session 9: Projects


Process

1. Download and review the Project Description document.

2. Select your delivery environment (CMS or website).

3. Assemble the materials you have developed and/or develop additional materials as needed to create an online course.

((I post this homework early because I am trying to finish all the assignments that in etec541 before i have my new baby :) ))




Planning and production of the online course:

I don’t have access to a CMS because of that I used a website to present my course. My course includes many important links

First, a syllabus includes the name of the course and short description of the course, information about me, email address and phone numbers, my office hour, the grading system, lists course policies.

Second, the schedule of class includes all the sessions, the homework assignments, links to videos, also it include my own materials that I created for this course. The students can determine what information that will be covered in the class from week to week. Also students will know how to start and where to get help because the schedule will let them know every thing step by step and if they have any misunderstand they can send email to the instructor or call her in her office hours.

Third, one complete class session: this session will include directions on what to do and in what order. Also explain what the technology that we will use it and PowerPoint that created by the instructor to show the students type by step to use the new technology.

The homework for each session: students will be able to complete the assignments in one-week that are required. Some students might take longer to completed, or face problem they can communicate with instructor by email and ask hem about what they face or ask them more time to finish it.

The final exam: all the questions will choose to reflect the students' understanding of the objects that in this course. Student have one week to finish the exam. The exam will be in the instructor website also the instructor will send it to each students by email.

session 8

Session 8: Development - Testing


In this online course, I create some media and i will use Microsoft PowerPoint, syllabus, and some links in the syllabus. All The media that I create using ((scribd)) website to upload my PowerPoint and syllabus. And I will create word documents explaining each step of the method to solve every problem that may the student face it when they try to open the program or the PowerPoint.

Explain your experiences with various media and discuss how you might integrate new media into the lessons that you are creating.

Before I stare discussing the use of new media I would learn more about some new things in this session :

Web 2.0:

The term Web 2.0 is commonly associated with web applications that facilitate interactive information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design,[1] and collaboration on the World Wide Web. A Web 2.0 site gives its users the free choice to interact or collaborate with each other in a social media dialogue as creators (prosumer) of user-generated content in a virtual community, in contrast to websites where users (consumer) are limited to the passive viewing of content that was created for them. New media:

is a broad term that emerged in the later part of the 20th century to encompass the amalgamation of traditional media such as film, images, music, spoken and written word, with the interactive power of computer and communications technology, computer-enabled consumer devices and most importantly the Internet. New media holds out a possibility of on-demand access to content any time, anywhere, on any digital device, as well as interactive user feedback, creative participation and community formation around the media content. What distinguishes New media from traditional media is not the digitizing of media content into bits, but the dynamic life of the "new media" content and its interactive relationship with the media consumer. This dynamic life, moves, breathes and flows with pulsing excitement in real time. My Experience:
The technology has become indispensible part in our lives. In last few years ago, online courses are more common used in colleges. Since I've been in college in Saudi Arabia I had never deal with online classes because we don’t have this technology in some of our universities.
I’ve been taken an online course since I came to USA at CSUSB. I remember the first class it was ETEC 500 with Dr Newberry it was difficult in the first class but I like it after few classes I enjoy online class and I toke another class that was ETEC 676 in summer 09 with Dr Newberry. I have deal with new tools of technology like: podcasts, audio and video, chatting, skype program and blogs. There are a few reasons that make online classes successful one of them: online class is make learning more interesting. In my experience with online classes make learning more easy to get my education it allow me to be a full time student without coming to the university, because I am a mother and wife.
There are some of advantage and disadvantage of online classes, the advantage of online class in general way:

  • For students: they can play the lectures at anytime at any place, to take notes, complete assignment, do research, also to send and receive e-mail. Also students can share their information all over the world.
  • For Instructors: they can record the lectures by using padcast or video. Also they can access to their students 24/7. Online class makes learning more interactive, more enjoyable, and more customizable. It improves students’ attitudes toward content and their interest in learning.



There are many media that I deal with it in the instructional technology program and there are Strengths and weaknesses of using each one:


1- threaded discussion: (definition)

This is one of the tools of online class, it make student communicant with each other and with their instructor.

The strengths:
Share knowledge:
Student can share their experiences with each other
Improve critical thinking:
Student can improve their critical thinking skills.
Also students can post their idea with out feel shy.
The weaknesses:
I agree with dr Newberry that "the oldest post stays on top and to find new messages you must scroll down to the botto m. The hierarchical layout of threaded discussion also makes it difficult to scan through the posts. And it can be difficult to follow all of the threads, especially long ones, without some frustration."

(2) Skype:

Skype is a free program that allows student to chat with other and with their instructor through text, audio, and video.

The strengths:
* Free to Download.
* Students can connected with students who learning similar subject in the worldwide.
* Teachers can be available to their students.
The weaknesses:
* doesn’t work as well with student that have slower Internet connections.
* Doesn't work as well with student that have problem with typing.

Is a two-way communication tool

The strengths:

Students can share the information with each other

Students can leave comments on other students.

it is free

easy to use.

The weaknesses:

in my opinion i don't see any weaknesses since i use the blog.

The strengths:

Students can be used to relate a live podcast

Students can share the information with each other

It is free

The weaknesses:

with the new student who doesn't deal with this program before.

6- Power Point:

you can create the power point by using Windows

The strengths:

Students can download the power point and view it when the want.

Easy to use

It's too easy to create slides

The weaknesses:

some time when you use the tools that in the PowerPoint in wrong way like the chose the wrong color with wrong background its make it hard to read and some time ugly.

The Online Class :
In this class I will focus to development online materials , I would use power point a to explain some steps to my students ,I would use skype to contact with my student and allow them to contact with each other by blog. Student can connected with me by using email, they can send their assignment to me every week also answer my question that i put it in the end of my course.

i didn't deal with flicker and teachertube before but when i read about them i like to use it in future

youtbue i know about it and when i face some different i type what i want to know about it and i find alot of video tube tooking in same the topic,

youtube is very helpful in education and help the students to learn.
